A friend (Hi, Pam! ü) gave me some vanilla beans many months back. I was only able to open it last month as I was planning to make vanilla bean cupcakes but that did not happen for some reason. I thought I’d make a batch of vanilla extract first after seeing it somewhere and finding out how easy. I remember this is one of the reasons why I asked for vanilla beans but because my routine now is so much different from before, I always seem to put baking and trying new cooking recipes aside. I do miss it but I had to put it on the sideline. I will slowly get back to it and to sharing what I’ve tried here.
Well, we have a long weekend and yippee yay, I found some time to make a post. Here it is.
So, to make vanilla extract at home, from what I’ve read around from some blogs and food sites, It seems that the ratio of vanilla beans to vodka (or whiskey or rum) is 1 cup vodka: 3 vanilla bean pods. You will also need a jar or bottle, preferably a dark one PLUS waiting time (at least 2 months). I find that the hardest. I keep visiting my bottle in the pantry and smelling it. I can’t wait to use it for my Holiday Baking next month. ü
